With two distinct yet cohesive rooms, Create and Nurture, we’ve designed creative spaces that mirror the journey of creativity itself. Here’s the story of how and why we designed it this way.
Two Rooms, One Purposes
Our creative spaces are divided into two main rooms:
- Create: A meeting room focused outward—on expansion, imagination, and big ideas. It’s a space to dream big and imagine without limits.
- Nurture: A meeting room focused inward—a cozy, grounded space designed for decision-making and collaboration. It’s where ideas are refined and plans take shape.
Why these two rooms? The answer lies in a combination of necessity, creativity, and a deep understanding of the innovation process. This intentional design allows for both the freedom to dream and the focus to execute, creating the perfect balance for creativity to thrive.
Thinking Inside The Box
Our design was initially guided by practicality. When we bought our home, we inherited two sheds in the yard. Because our home is located next to a beautiful church in a protected area, local regulations required us to preserve the existing structures. These two sheds became our “box.”
While some might see this as a limitation, we saw it as an opportunity to embody the phrase thinking inside the box. These existing boundaries became the framework for a design that perfectly aligns with the creative process. These two structures became the foundation of our creative space.
Reflecting the Creative Process
Every innovation process follows two key phases, and our two rooms reflect this journey:
1. Divergence: Create
Innovation begins with dreaming and brainstorming—letting ideas flow freely, no matter how wild they may seem. This is the divergence phase, where anything is possible.
Create captures this spirit:
- Soft corners encourage open thinking.
- A stretch ceiling illusion inspires a sense of height and freedom.
- Expansive views outward and upward shift focus beyond the immediate, inviting you to think big.
In this space, your gaze isn’t limited to what’s directly in front of you. It encourages free thinking, exploration and limitless flow of ideas.
2. Convergence: Nurture
Once the dreaming is done, it’s time for focus and decision-making. This is the convergence phase, where ideas are selected, refined, merged, and turned into actionable plans.
Nurture is designed for this process:
- Big tables encourage collaboration.
- Minimal external distractions create a focused environment.
- A cozy, grounded atmosphere fosters connection and clarity.
It’s the ideal setting for collaboration, decision-making and turning dreams into action.
Nurture and Boost: Rest, Recharge and Refresh
Creative work is hard work. Creativity also requires balance. That’s why Nurture also doubles as a break area, complete with coffee, tea and healthy snacks. Paired with Boost, our garden, it offers moments of relaxation and inspiration to fuel your creative process.
Even during a quick pause, your brain continues working in the background, stitching ideas together in unexpected ways. This is where the magic of a well-designed creative space truly shines.
